After intensive planning since the Autumn 2010 the Fantastic Art Museum (PhantastenMuseum) in Vienna opened as planned on January 15th 2011. For many weeks the team from the Österreichischen Kulturzentrum (Austrian Cultural Center) in the Palais Palffy and Gerhard Habarta had their hands full building for visitors to the museum, an interesting and informative journey through the history of Fantastic Art and to further the cause for the future.  It may be an exaggeration to say that they have more than succeeded. The wonderful ambience and bright, modern exhibition rooms round off the overall impression of perfection and make a visit to the museum a memorable experience for art lovers...............read more

Interview with the Artist Otto Rapp

 The detailed pencil drawings of artist Otto Rapp could be included as part of the rebirth of modern surrealism aside from the fact that he doesn’t abandon all reason within his work. Although his artwork incorporates bold iconic imagery combined with dreamlike, sometimes nightmarish elements, they seem to be more deliberately tied together to convey a singular meaning. His work, which has been created over the course of several decades to include paintings as well as digital art, are an exploration of the enigmatic alter ego he has created for himself as a traditional artist. Before we go any further, I’d like to say thank you to Otto for taking the time to provide such insightful answers to the interview questions.

This painting is in the final Showdown!

The Top 128 will compete in a bracket-style tournament - win or go home.
 Each round will last 2 days. Once the Top 16 is reached, brackets will be visible at http://www.saatchionline.com/showdown. The eight artworks that advance from the Round of Sixteen will compete in the Quarterfinals based on their position in the Round of Sixteen. The Semifinal round will give us our top 2 to compete in the Final Showdown.

Final Voting: Between January 6, 2011, 10:00 am and January 20, 2011, 9:59 am

Sonja made it through the first round of this final (each round 2 days) - SHE REACHED THE FINAL 64!

UPDATE January 10th:

Unfortunately, the run to the top stopped at the final 64. We are very sorry to say that this excellent work of art did not advance any further!
