25th Anniversary WEAVEWORLD Edition illustrated by Richard A. Kirk
Now that the above advertisement has been published, I can finally let the proverbial cat out of the bag. The cat in this case being the news that I will be spending a good deal of 2011 illustrating the 25th anniversary edition of Clive Barker's Weaveworld. It will be published by Earthling, who I have worked with for a number of years on projects, illustrating the the writing of Christopher Golden, China Mieville and Jeffery Thomas. I read Weaveworld when it first came out in the mid 1980s, my first thought on finishing the book, was "man would I like to illustrate this thing." Actually there was an expletive in there but I'll spare you that detail. Well, now I am getting my shot. Can't wait. As many of you know, I've had the good fortune to work with Clive Barker on a number of projects. I think this will be the best yet!
Other news (and apologies to my FB pals that have already heard this), issue 301 of Fangoria Magazine will carry a profile on my work written by David Goodfellow. David is an excellent writer and has done a great job of taking my ramblings and putting them into a nice coherent whole. There will be pictures with the profile of course, so check it out!
Finally, I am very busy completing the first draft of The Red Lamprey, my next novel from Radiolaria Studios. I hope to have that done in early January when I will start the illustrations and begin the careful revisions, additions, deletions and so on. The story continues where The Lost Machine left off, but is an entirely new stand alone tale. My dear friend Hans Rueffert will be writing a foreword.
Happy New Year everyone!
Richard.

men-nature ; the end of western modernism
globalism
identity
CREATIVITY(DIVERSITY) INSTEAD OF MARKETING (UNIFORMITY)
I am not so much concerned with personal (free) expression as with communication (changing consciousness), which is why I use a broad range of styles (based on realism). My aim is to look critically at Western modernism (the distinction between body and mind [= matter + energy], i.e.rationalism, materialism, mechanism, dehumanising, reductionism, linear thought, narrowmindedness, hierarchy, control and exploitation of nature [taking only, no balance or harmony], the cult of self,expansion/growth [the idea of progress]. I am looking for new assumptions and starting points where modernistic assumptions have failed. In other words, I am referring back to pre-modernism [including primitive cultures] to find out how we can start again. For the past century we have factually already been living in a non-modernistic world. All products requiring electricity (including computers and the internet but also the A-bomb, laser, holographics, nanotechnology and so on) are based on quantum mechanics, which states that there is NO separation between matter and energy. Modernistic duality [and thus the other modernistic assumptions] has been proven wrong for the past century! However, we are still living with a modernistic mentality or mindset, which is the root cause of many of our current problems (particularly the climate change and the financial-economic system, i.e. political and social issues).

VISIONARY ART YEARBOOK 2010 - 2011
PREVIEW
THE VISIONARY TRIBE
They come like sleepwalkers following their original vision and that vision awakens and stirs the spirit. Long centuries have trodden on the graves of ancient adepts, almost entirely obliterating all sense of spiritual ecstasy from the hearts of humankind, and have taken the lightning from our eyes. This is what the Visionary Tribe provides: a restoration and recall from spiritual amnesia of what we attained long ago, what we are now and to what we might yet become; they restore lightning to the eyes. They realize that a vision without a task is but a dream, a task without a vision is drudgery, and that a vision and a task is the hope of the world.

SAVE THE BIBLIOTHECA PHILOSOPHICA HERMETICA
Save the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica!
The Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica (BPH, or Ritman Library) in Amsterdam has been a very important institution for research into hermetic philosophy and related currents, particularly early modern Rosicrucianism and alchemy, for decades. In a dramatic and very unsettling turn of events, the library’s existence as we know it is now being threatened. It is all very unclear what will happen, but there is no doubt that spreading the word and creating attention around the developments is the least we can do to try and influence things in the best possible direction – to save the library, the staff, and its national heritage collection of manuscripts and printed books. Please sign this petition, and feel free to spread the word to anyone you think should know about this. For more information, read the note below.
Petition:
Express your protest against the dissolution of the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica (Ritman Library)
It is widely known that the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica in Amsterdam, founded by J.R. Ritman, was in great danger in the 1990s, when the ING bank took possession of the collection and threatened to sell it. Fortunately, the Dutch government intervened: the BPH was put on the list of protected Dutch heritage, and the State eventually acquired over 40% of it. The books remained at the same physical location, integrated with the rest of the collection, and the government would eventually acquire all of it. As part of this process, there were great plans for further expansion. Largely due to the financial crisis and a change of government this was taking somewhat longer than originally anticipated, but nobody doubted that the library was safe.
Last week this turned out to be incorrect. An extremely valuable medieval manuscript owned by the BPH (The Grail of Rochefoucauld) was put on sale at Sotheby’s, and this triggered a reaction from the Friesland Bank, which took possession of the library, that had apparently been brought in as collateral, in order to get back a 15 million euro loan from mr Ritman. At present the BPH is closed, and intense negotiations are going on behind closed doors. It is impossible at this moment to predict the outcome, but there is no doubt that the situation is extremely serious. There is a very real possibility that the Friesland bank will try to sell at least the ca. 60% of the library that is still owned by mr Ritman, and nobody knows what implications this will have for the rest of the collection and the BPH as a whole, including its staff. The brand-new government of the Netherlands has announced a program of radical financial cuts in the culture section and elsewhere, which makes a renewed intervention from that side highly unlikely.
If the Ritman library would go down, this would mean an enormous blow to international scholarship in hermetic studies. The damage would be irreversible. By signing this petition you express your concern, and ask the Dutch government and the Friesland bank to do their utmost to ensure that the collection will be saved and will remain available for the international scholarly community.
Additionally, you can express your concern by means of a signed letter. The initiative for this petition comes from the Center for History of Hermetic Philosophy and related Currents at the University of Amsterdam (organizationally independent of the BPH, and not in any danger itself), so please send your letter to its director: Prof. Wouter J. Hanegraaff, Oude Turfmarkt 141-147, 1012 GC Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Email: w.j.hanegraaff [ at ] uva.nl
Help save the library: Sign the petition.
UPDATE: A new blog has been created for the preservation of the Ritman Library. Check it out and show your support!

The word Zodiac literally means animals. It refers to the patterns and configurations of creatures as seen in the stars at night. Astrology has been used by virtually every civilization for thousands of years, and has deep roots in ancient times when less scientific methods were employed and superstition ran rampant. In many cultures, the key to who we are and what are we here for can be unlocked in the stars. Our understanding of Astrology strives toward a synthesis between science, personal experience, and religion. The most important thing about any understanding of Astrology is that it shows the connections of peoples with a clarity and irrefutability as are hardly to be exposed anywhere else. Perhaps in it alone have East and West, Christians, Muslims, Hindi and Buddhists understood one another without difficulty. There will be a limited edition book from the show.
On November 20th, please observe + Z + O + D + I + A + C + Art Show with us at the Congregation Gallery.

PETER GRIC - ASSOCIATED ARTIST - VISIONARY ART GALLERY
Peter Gric is a personal friend to many of the Artists in our Visionary Art Network. He is extremely talented and hard working. Though not a member of our network, we have started a new category for Associated Artists. The first one to be featured was our and Peters good friend Benedetto Fellin.
We now added Peter to the category of Associated Artist, and we also like to mention that aside from Peter's own official website, we feature the largest collection of his work on the web.
